Danny Mills backs Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford to step up for Leeds United v Norwich
Danny Mills believes Leeds United needs star players like Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford to step up to help secure a play-off win against Norwich City.
The Whites know that nothing but a win will be good enough to secure a place in the final after a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road on Sunday (12 May).
The goalless draw last time out was representative of two sides who didn’t want to lose the first leg, the second will have to feature a different approach.
Speaking on talkSPORT (16 May), Mills suggested that Farke will have to lean on his best players to earn the all-important result.
He said: “Play the game and not the occasion. All the best teams stick to their game plan. There have to be contingencies but you’ve got to believe in what you’re doing.
“They were third in the league for a reason so they’ve got to play their way, keep doing what they’re doing and hopefully those special players can help Leeds to a play-off final. There’s a bit of nerves. In the last 10 games, they’ve just got a bit nervous and looked a bit jittery.
“They need their stars. They need Gnonto to step up, Bamford if he plays stepping up. It’s going to be about the big moments, have you got the confidence and the belief to put the ball in the back of the net when they get a chance?”
How can Wilfried Gnonto step up for Leeds United v Norwich?
Gnonto has had a positive campaign for Leeds although he may have hoped for better in the drop to the Championship.
This campaign he has contributed to eight goals and two assists across 37 league appearances, according to FotMob.
He has been in and out of the team for Dan James and through the form of Crysencio Summerville who has been pivotal to Farke’s side.
The Italian has played across a variety of different positions this season which may excuse some irregularities in his form.
Gnonto has always been useful with the ball at his feet and he has always had an eye to cut inside and get a shot off.

With his ability on the ball and ability to win a foul, he could prove to be a vital asset against Norwich.
Combining with the likes of Summerville, Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter could be devastating as Leeds searches for a goal against the Canaries.
