Daniel James season with Leeds United appears to be over as image circulates

Leeds United appear to have suffered a major blow as Daniel James could well be facing a spell on the sidelines.

The Wales international sustained an injury during Monday’s (22 April) 4-3 win over Middlesbrough after coming on as a substitute.

The Whites confirmed on their website on Tuesday (23 April) that James “suffered a costal cartilage injury and an oblique abdominal muscle tear.”

While he has so far only been ruled out of the QPR game on Friday (26 April), images circulating on social media suggest he will be out longer.

The images show James taking on gas and air while on the Leeds team coach after the game at Riverside Stadium.

The wording of the Leeds statement suggests that the winger possibly fractured or dislocated cartilage around his ribs and breastbone area.

If that is the case, it is certain he will also miss the Southampton game on the final day of the regular campaign.

Championship play-off dates

Should Leeds miss out on automatic promotion and have to settle for the play-offs, the turnaround could also spell bad news for James.

The first leg takes place on either 12 or 13 May and the second leg four days later in both cases, with the final at Wembley slated for 26 May.

Badly damaging the rib area is a serious matter and not something any human can rush back from – professional footballer or otherwise.

Given the damage was severe enough for James to require the treatment he received, you have to fear the worst for his chances of playing again this term.

Regardless of whether he kicks another ball, James has more than played his part this season and will hopefully be fit and well to attend the promotion parade once his team-mates complete the job.
