Daniel James open to playing at any position for Leeds United

Wales international Daniel James believes that he is no longer an out-and-out winger at Leeds United as he was during his time with previous clubs.

The 24-year-old played the last few games of the previous season as a central striker under Jesse Marsch.

James, while talking to The Independent, stated that he is now open to playing at any position to help the Whites in the upcoming campaign.

“If I just say one position then it’s not going to improve me as a player,” he said. “Playing a lot of different positions last year has really helped me come along, on and off the field, how I see the game, mentally as well.

“So I’m happy to play anywhere across the front four. I’d play right-back if he wanted me to, but every position up there.”

Inconsistent

In his first season with Leeds, the former Manchester United winger scored four goals and provided four assists in 32 Premier League games. He averaged 1.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in those fixtures [Whoscored].

During his time at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Soljskaer believed that his biggest strength of James was his pace and ability to press across the entire forward line. His ability to press from the front led to many mistakes and that resulted in goals in his short career.

James has got incredible pace and for that reason alone, he has the ability to play on both sides of the wing.

However, he is always questioned for his final product as he tends to be inconsistent, which was also seen during his first season at Elland Road. Will that fate change in a new role under Marsch? It remains to be seen.
