Daniel Farke wants to bring Oliver Skipp to Leeds United as Premier League clubs eye Tottenham man

Journalist Alasdair Gold has shared that Daniel Farke would love to bring Oliver Skipp to Leeds United this summer.

Leeds teenager Archie Gray has been sold to Tottenham in a £40million transfer [Fabrizio Romano, 2 July] with Joe Rodon returning to Elland Road full-time in a separate deal (Graham Smyth, 1 July).

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast (1 July), Gold suggested exit-linked Spurs midfielder Skipp is someone Farke would love to bring to West Yorkshire having had him on loan at previous club Norwich City.

However, he added that Skipp is likely to draw Premier League interest if he is allowed to leave.

“We mention Oliver Skipp. It doesn’t seem as though he’s involved in this deal in any way, although Daniel Farke would love to have him there after a terrific season with Norwich,” Gold said.

“I get the sense that if Spurs were to allow him to go, Oliver Skipp, there would be Premier League clubs queueing up to take him.”

Why Oliver Skipp would be an ideal addition to the Leeds United squad

Skipp played a fairly consistent role within Ange Postecoglou’s squad last season as the 23-year-old made a total of 24 appearances for Spurs last term.

However, now that the Gray deal is complete, the former Norwich loanee will likely be considering his options.

Due to the £40million that Tottenham have spent on bringing the youngster in, it would be surprising to not see the 18-year-old included within the first-team fold next season.

But Gray’s addition could mean even more limited game time for Skipp, who already faces competition from the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison.

Not only would this mean that he’d spend the vast majority of the time on the bench but it would also mean that his development would be hindered.

Hence, why a move to West Yorkshire makes sense for all involved parties, especially since he’s been linked with a move to Leeds since before a deal for Gray was even agreed [The Athletic, 13 June].

The only issue might be that if Premier League clubs come sniffing, he might be out of reach for Leeds.
