Daniel Farke told to ready Leeds United ‘plan b’ ahead of showdown v QPR
Aidan White has told Daniel Farke to create a “plan b” at Leeds United ahead of the showdown with Queens Park Rangers.
The Whites welcome Marti Cifuentes’ side to Elland Road on Saturday (9 November) as they look to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Millwall at The Den last time out.
Although ex-Leeds star White has been impressed by “electrifying” players like Dan James and Willy Gnonto, he believes the Whites need a different plan to get the better of teams who set up with a low block.
Speaking on The Square Ball Podcast (8 November, 31:20) he said: “Unless teams come toe to toe with us, it’s difficult to make that entertaining with that free-flowing football.
“We have to be quite patient and that is a little bit dull sometimes. In that final third, we have got players who can be electrifying when they’re on form, Gnonto, Dan James and Ramazani when he’s fit.
“I felt last season we relied on that a little bit too much with Summerville and we just maybe need to learn our lessons a little bit and change things up slightly every now and again.
“Maybe have a slight plan B, not massively in terms of going away from the whole system but how are we going to break those teams down when they sit in and make it difficult with us.”
What has happened to Leeds United manager Daniel Farke at Elland Road?
Leeds United have been guilty of being more than a bit one dimensional under the management of Farke.
As White suggests, last season there was a reliance on Summerville to score and create things in the final third, but at least the Dutchman was supporters by the goals of Georginio Rutter and even Patrick Bamford to an extent.
This season, Leeds don’t have that one man to score all their goals. Things are being shared around the frontline but none of the players have been capable of tearing up the division in the manner that Summerville did.
That makes Leeds far too easy to defend against when they’re not at their best. Millwall kept them at arm’s length at The Den and QPR could well do the same if the Whites don’t attempt to mix things up quickly.
Hopefully, Farke will have readied a back-up plan that can be called upon if required.
