Daniel Farke to axe exit-linked Willy Gnonto, three changes – Leeds United predicted XI v Birmingham

Daniel Farke could be set to axe Willy Gnonto from his starting lineup ahead of the Leeds United game against Birmingham City on Monday (1 January).

The Italian international made his first start in more than two months in the Whites’ 1-0 defeat against promotion rivals West Brom on Friday (29 December).

But the 19-year-old forward, who has been linked with a move from the club in January, failed to make an impression as he was replaced by Patrick Bamford with half an hour left to play at the Hawthorns.

Farke made five changes to his lineup against the Baggies as he looks to manage the festive period, with the Whites boss predicted to make three alternations as his side prepare to welcome Birmingham to Elland Road.

After making his Championship debut for the club following keeper Illan Meslier’s sending-off against Preston North End on Boxing Day, Karl Darlow is expected to line up in between the sticks again.

Having dropped to the bench against West Brom, Archie Gray could return to the lineup at right-back in place of Sam Byram.

That means Jed Spence is likely to shift to left-back after the Tottenham loanee has started the past five games since returning from injury.

Although Joe Rodon looked to be struggling at times during the defeat in the Midlands, the centre-back is expected to be fine for the clash on Monday and he is predicted to start alongside Liam Cooper, with question marks still surrounding the fitness of Pascal Struijk after he missed the game on Friday with a groin issue.

Ethan Ampadu is likely to start in midfield and he may be joined by Glen Kamara, who could return in place of Ilia Gruev after he was handed a rare start last time out.

Gnonto is expected to drop down to the bench having failed to take his opportunity, with Dan James predicted to start on the right-hand side of the attack.

Crysencio Summerville is likely to take his place on the left flank as he will be looking to add to his impressive stats this season, where he’s scored 11 goals and laid on six assists in 22 league appearances [Transfermarkt].

Joel Piroe could start in behind forward Georginio Rutter as the pair look to get back to scoring ways to help the Whites pick up an important three points at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are targeting a Premier League ace as they prepare for a transfer blitz in January.
