Daniel Farke tells Brenden Aaronson what he must do after Millwall v Leeds United

Daniel Farke has told Brenden Aaronson he must improve his finishing after missing a good chance as Leeds United lost to Millwall on Wednesday.

The Whites suffered their second Championship defeat of the season on 6 November, with a 40th-minute goal from Japhet Tanganga giving the Lions a 1-0 win at The Den.

Aaronson was among the players who had a chance to score for the visitors, having a shot from the edge of the box only to hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

Farke thought the attacker should have done better on that occasion and also stressed the need for him to better his positioning.

“If you have a look on the workload, he was the hardest-working player yesterday (6 November) on the pitch and won possession so often for us”, Farke told a press conference (YouTube, 7 November).

“With him what I criticise a little bit, he was in a shooting position from 14 yards, I want my No. 10 to be there with a better finish instead of putting the ball in the centre of the goal, choose one corner, be more tidy in the finishing.

“We spoke at half-time, that he runs too much, that he overloads the wings too much and then in the decisive moments not always there where it counts, close to a striker when he can make things happen.”

Aaronson has done well to get the fans back on his side after returning from his Union Berlin loan, grabbing four goals and an assist in 14 league games.

However, sometimes the United States international’s performances, as seen against Millwall, leave much to be desired.

For someone who cost the club £24.7million (Sky Sports, 2022), Aaronson needs to step up more often, especially when things are not going well for his team.

While the Whites have a team good enough to secure promotion, sometimes they will need someone to be the hero and nick a point or three.

Aaronson has what it takes to be that player when needed, but just needs to improve his finishing and positioning as Farke said.

The 24-year-old has notably netted in both of Leeds’ last two home games and will look to do it against when QPR visit Elland Road on Saturday (9 November).
