Daniel Farke shares ‘painful’ Willy Gnonto injury update after Leeds United draw v Hull

Daniel Farke has shared an update on the injury suffered by Willy Gnonto in the Leeds United draw against Hull City on Wednesday (20 September).

Speaking to LeedsLive on Wednesday, the Whites boss said the Italian international rolled his ankle, which was “pretty painful” as he was forced off the field after just 21 minutes as the game ended 0-0 at MKM Stadium.

He added that the 19-year-old forward’s foot was “a bit swollen”, but hopes the injury isn’t too bad as they have to “wait for further assessment”.

“Yes, it was a knock on his foot,” said Farke. “Also rolled his ankle a little bit and it was pretty painful, was a bit swollen and we have to wait for further assessment.

“Hopefully, it’s not too bad. But now we have to wait.”

Likely to miss time

It’s always a bit tricky with ankle injuries and it clearly was a reasonably substantial knock that Gnonto took after it forced him to be substituted.

It feels as though he is likely to be missing for at least the game against Watford on Saturday (23 September) as he would have to recover very quickly to be available.

That would be a blow to Farke as he sees the Italian as a key part of his side after he fought desperately hard to keep him at the club over the summer.

But if he is missing, it will provide another player with the opportunity to come in and impress and that’s likely to be Crysencio Summerville after he looked extremely bright when he came on for his fellow attacker on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Dutchman was unfortunate to not get on the scoresheet, having seen a number of shots saved by Hull keeper Ryan Allsop as the game ended goalless.

In other Leeds United news, one player could be set for a permanent Whites exit following an £82million development.
