Daniel Farke shares ‘not great news’ on Daniel James, Leeds teammate also out vs Tottenham

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke knows his Leeds team will have to be firing on all cylinders to secure a positive result against Tottenham.

Tottenham will be strong favourites to beat Leeds when they visit Elland Road on Saturday. They’ll start the day fourth in the Premier League table after a bright start under new manager Thomas Frank.

Leeds are always dangerous at home, though, and Farke has a good record against Tottenham over the years.

However, the Leeds manager has revealed some discouraging injury news ahead of this difficult match.

Daniel Farke says Dan James will be out for 4-6 weeks

Leeds fans have been worrying about Dan James’ injury ever since it was confirmed by Craig Bellamy earlier this week.

It looked for a while that it might not be as serious as first feared, especially after James was called to Wales’ squad for next week’s international break.

However, Daniel Farke confirmed on Thursday that James rolled his ankle in training and would be out for roughly four-to-six weeks. He called that “not great news”, even if the Wales international was expected to be out for longer.

Farke also confirmed that the Tottenham fixture would come too soon for Willy Gnonto and Lucas Perri, who have both missed the last few games with niggling injuries.

Leeds United’s record against Tottenham

Tottenham have the opportunity to win three games in a row at Leeds for the first time in their history. They’ve won their last two matches at Elland Road and their last four in total.

The last time Leeds beat Spurs was a 3-1 victory in May 2021, when goals from Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo dented Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League that season.

Overall, there have been 103 games played between these two giants of English football in all competitions.

Many Leeds fans would happily take a draw against Thomas Frank’s side, given the strength of their squad and how they have been playing this season.

However, Leeds have looked more dangerous in attack in recent games, while falling behind in three of their last four games, so there is certainly reason to expect Leeds could get something from this game.
