Daniel Farke makes medical staff admission at Leeds United as sixth player doubtful v Coventry

Daniel Farke insists he is “very happy” with the Leeds United medical department ahead of the clash against Coventry City, despite a growing injury list.

The Whites are suffering an injury crisis ahead of the match on Saturday (28 September), with Tottenham loanee Manor Solomon the latest to join the list.

Farke addressed the ongoing crisis at his pre-match news conference, as shared by Leeds Live [26 September], who report that as many as six senior players could be out this weekend.

He said: “I am very happy with all our medical department. With all the others and due to the load with all the games, I am quite happy so far with the outcome. Hopefully it is just an exception that we have this week.

“After each and every season you review what has happened and in terms of injuries, if they are for example muscular injuries which you can perhaps avoid, or are there many contact injuries, but even last season we were pretty happy with it.

“In terms of training load it was one of the highest, or the highest loads for years at this club but the lowest injury percentage. Overall we were pretty pleased with it.

“Then in pre-season and at the beginning of the season we were really pleased and we had some pretty good games where no-one was injured.

“But for example, Max Wober was injured on international duty for his country and since that moment he has not been able to play a game for us.

“So sometimes you are unlucky with something you cannot control. Sometimes you have to accept that.”

Leeds United face injury crisis v Coventry City

Leeds may have enjoyed a resounding 2-0 victory against Cardiff City last weekend but the start of the season has been far from the standard expected for Farke.

The Whites have climbed into the playoff spots but they still need to bridge the five-point gap to West Brom at the top of the Championship table to get their season back on track.

Farke should still be able to field a side capable of claiming the three points against Coventry. However, with Norwich City, Sunderland and Sheffield United to face in the next three fixtures, Leeds will need their strongest eleven to avoid falling further behind their promotion rivals.

Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford added to the woes with the pair missing training this week. Solomon and Daniel James are confirmed out and Max Wober is facing a considerable spell on the sidelines.

Leeds are heading into the match potentially without six regular starters and, while it is the perfect opportunity for fringe players to stake a claim in their absence, the mounting injuries couldn’t have arrived at a worse possible time.

Farke needs to gain momentum from the weekend to navigate the daunting fixture run ahead. This is what Leeds prepared for when the club recruited towards the end of the summer transfer window and now is the time for those players to step up.
