Daniel Farke shares Max Wober surgery news in latest Leeds United injury blow
Daniel Farke has said Leeds United ace Max Wober may need surgery for his latest injury.
The defender has been sidelined for the vast majority of the season so far with various injuries and, despite saying he was going to be fighting for his place [Sky Sports Austria, 4 September], he hasn’t yet managed to do so
Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon have been formidable at the back for Leeds with the pair starting each game together thus far.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match against Coventry, Farke shared an update on the defender’s injury, with BBC Journalist Adam Pope summarising what the German said in a post via X (26 September).
“Wober is still out & a decision will be needed over coming days if he requires knee surgery,” Pope wrote.
Leeds United need Max Wober to return
Leeds have had a below-par start to the 2024/25 season and currently find themselves sixth in the Championship, five points adrift of league leaders West Brom.
While the Whites’ defence has been fairly strong with the team conceding just one or two goals during games, it still feels like improvements could be made.
Rodon and Struijk have been a strong pairing but it’s rather unrealistic to expect them to play each and every game this season.
Of course, the aforementioned duo will still be Farke’s first-choice pairing but it wouldn’t hurt for Wober to ease some of the pressure.
The defender was kept at Elland Road during the summer after Borussia Monchengladbach didn’t want to pay the fee that Leeds were asking for [Rheinische Post, 29 July].
Many fans deemed this to be a positive thing due to his impressive Euro 2024 performances for Austria.
However, at this point in the season, it feels quite the opposite, as it seems as if the club would’ve been better off recruiting another centre-back to take his role rather than keeping a hold of the former RB Salzburg man.
