Daniel Farke shares Dominic Calvert-Lewin status in double update ahead of Leeds vs Liverpool – ‘Question marks’

Daniel Farke has shared an update on the state of his Leeds squad ahead of the Liverpool clash on Saturday.

Leeds recorded a stunning victory over Chelsea on 3 December, which eased the pressure on Farke ahead of the visit of the Reds.

The Elland Road clash provides the Whites with the opportunity to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

Farke changed his Leeds side and played two strikers against the Blues, but he may not be able to take a similar approach on 6 December.

Daniel Farke shares injury update ahead of Leeds clash with Liverpool

Dan James is definitely out of the contest for Leeds, and Farke has updated supporters on the condition of his other injury doubts.

The German revealed that both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha are doubtful, but Ao Tanaka should be able to feature, despite playing the previous two games with Manchester City and Chelsea.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “No fresh injury concerns, we definitely have Daniel James and Sean Longstaff out, of course, we need to take some late decisions, like always when you have such a quick turnaround.

“There are a few players who are a bit more major doubts, Lukas Nmecha, with a hamstring problem after the last game, we have to assess him, if he is really available, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with some calf problems after the last game, also question marks over his availability.

“We have to see who will be fully recovered, for some players, it is a bit easier once you are used to this this load, three games in seven days, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, they are a bit more used to it.

“With Ao Tanaka, it is a bit more tricky, because he has played both games, many minutes in a position where he had to invest a lot, hopefully, at the moment, he is in the ice baths, and we have to see how quick they recover.”

What changes could Farke make for Leeds vs Liverpool

Many supporters will hope that Farke does not make any changes for the clash with last season’s champions after the Chelsea result.

However, he could decide to change his line-up to try and punish Arne Slot’s side, as he has shown that he can adapt tactically in recent weeks.

Noah Okafor came off the bench to play a crucial part in the third goal as he poked the ball to Calvert-Lewin for his easy strike.

The Swiss star could be handed an opportunity from the start, while Brenden Aaronson and Wilfried Gnonto will also be pushing to play.

It is an intriguing question for the German manager, does he stick with what worked against Enzo Maresca’s side or go with a completely different approach against the Anfield outfit?

Only time will tell.
