Daniel Farke shares deadline day ‘guarantee’ as last-ditch Leeds United transfer update emerges

Daniel Farke has shared that he can “guarantee” Leeds United will work up until the January transfer deadline to secure a new arrival, but can’t be certain that it will be successful.

The Whites are yet to add to their squad in the January window, with the only major movement in or out of Elland Road seeing Luke Ayling and Djed Spence bring an end to their spells in Yorkshire.

While Farke has repeatedly hinted that he would like some defensive reinforcement before Thursday (1 February) night’s deadline, he has admitted that he cannot guarantee that Leeds will get a deal over the line before then.

As quoted by Phil Hay on X (31 January) he said: “I can’t guarantee that something will happen in the next 24 hours. What I can guarantee is that we’re trying until the last hour to make something happen.”

Wait and see

Leeds United could do with one or two arrivals before January is up, but given their recent impressive form and the overall level of Farke’s squad, it is quite difficult for teh German to identify and sign targets that will directly improve the Whites.

A new full-back would be ideal, given the departures of Spence and Ayling, partnered with the injury woes of Sam Byram and Junior Firpo, but it will cost a pretty penny to sign a player more capable of performing in the Championship than Ayling.

As the transfer window draws closer to an end, it becomes harder and harder for teams to get deals over the line. While the staff at Elland Road may be working up until 11pm, that doesn’t mean that their work will bring with it success.

Hopefully, Leeds United can get one or two deals completed before the window slams shut, but it doesn’t appear as though any more incomings are particularly close at this moment in time.
