Daniel Farke set for transfer worry at Leeds United after unexpected Max Wober development

Max Wober has told Leeds United that he wants to quit the club now with his exit close and manager Daniel Farke faces an anxious few weeks trying to find a replacement.

The Whites are believed to be in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a season-long loan, with discussions over a permanent option being included too.

Daniel Farke confirmed that Wober was left out against Monaco due to a “transfer situation”, with it now being shared that the Austrian has shared his wishes to management to seek pastures new.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay shared the news on The Athletic live transfer blog on Sunday [23 July, 12:45] with another exit now on the cards after relegation at Elland Road.

And according to Sky Sports Germany Wober is in talks to leave the club as Borussia Monchengladbach eye him as a potential replacement for Nico Elvedi.

Wober will become the latest in a long line to move on, with Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Brenden Aaronson already leaving.

This is a staggering and unexpected twist at Elland Road after Leeds Live reported on 6 July that Wober is understood to have made it clear he wants to play on in the second tier and assuming unforeseen interest does not materialise, he will have been a strong candidate for starting regularly in the Championship.

With Leeds United losing several of their key stars and leaders in the dressing room this summer, it was absolutely imperative that Farke maintained some familiarity within the playing staff after his arrival but Wober’s new and unexpected desire has now thrown a spanner in the works.

And the 49ers Enterprises and the German boss now face an anxious few weeks trying to sort out a replacement for the Austrian, with the Whites now short of options at centre-back, even after Ethan Ampadu’s arrival.

Leeds United

The Austrian will have certainly been forgiven for jumping ship after the club’s relegation, given over a year ago, he was plying his trade in the UEFA Champions League for Salzburg before he moved to Leeds in January.

But when you commit your future to the club and then a few weeks later, express your desire to leave, Wober’s actions could certainly be deemed unforgivable.

Wober has now shown his true colours and there is no point in keeping a player who may have his mind elsewhere, especially when a gruelling Championship season is around the corner.

The Whites now simply have to get rid and ensure that they are getting the best out of this potential new exit especially with the Austrian only joining the club last summer.

Leeds United

But it is imperative the club start seeking out potential replacements in the market, a player capable of matching the quality and experience Wober possesses, all Leeds United could well be in trouble once the season kicks off.

This unexpected twist certainly hasn’t helped preparations at the club with Leeds United seemingly planning to have their key player ready, available and committed just a few weeks ago. How things change so quickly. Disappointing.
