Daniel Farke reveals details of first Leeds United team meeting as ‘fortress’ Elland Road targeted

Daniel Farke has revealed the details of his first team meeting after he was appointed by Leeds United, admitting he wanted to turn Elland Road into a fortress this season.

The Whites have been exceptional at home this season, winning seven and drawing three of their opening 10 matches at Elland Road, including an excellent 3-2 win over Middlesbrough last time out in the Championship.

Leeds’ home points total of 24 is only bettered by Ipswich Town, but Farke has admitted that he believes that the Elland Road atmosphere can be second to none in England and wants it to once again scare away sides.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (6 December) he said: “I mentioned in my first meeting with the players I wanted Elland Road to be a fortress again after difficult years.

“Every team is already a bit scared to come here because I know this place can be second to none in the country in terms of atmosphere and spirit.

“We’re on the right path to recreate this again.”

Recreating the fortress

The rule in the Championship typically is that if a side is able to win most of their home games in a campaign and pick up consistent results on the road, they will give themselves an excellent chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds United have begun to make Elland Road a horrible place for away sides to visit once again, with teams heading to Yorkshire now almost expecting to be beaten and more than happy to come away with a point at best.

The Whites are the only team in the Championship yet to taste defeat at home this season and Farke’s side seem to have confidence when playing in front of their home fans that few sides in England’s second tier can boast and that will be a huge boost to both the supporters and the players.

Farke knows what it takes to be promoted from the Championship and as soon as he arrived at Elland Road it was clear he wanted to make Leeds’ home form a priority. An away trip to Leeds is once again intimating and teams will be scared to face Farke’s side.
