Daniel Farke potentially one game from Leeds United sack

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke could be just 90 minutes of football away from losing his job at Elland Road, according to talkSPORT pundit Adrian Clarke.

Clarke was previewing the second leg of Leeds’ Championship play-off semi-final second leg with Norwich City, which stands goalless at the halfway point, on the What the EFL?! podcast [15 May].

He says he fears for the future of ex-Norwich boss Farke at Leeds if they fall at the semi-final hurdle, with Leeds’ clear ambitions for promotion outlined throughout the season.

Clarke commented: “I still would side with Leeds because I genuinely think they are just one good goal away from kickstarting that battery again. But until they get it they could limp out of the whole campaign.

“It will be a failure if they don’t make the final. You would fear for Farke’s future in the job if he doesn’t get it, so it’s high pressure, high stakes but I still think Leeds are the better team.”

Will Daniel Farke be sacked if Leeds United lose in the play-offs?

It looks to be a genuine possibility that Farke could be shown the door if Leeds United find themselves stuck in the second tier next season.

The idealism of Leeds fans became reality under Marcelo Bielsa and the club have unsurprisingly regressed since his departure, but irrespective of that, the standards are understandably to establish a club the size of Leeds as a top-flight outfit again.

Farke’s previous success with Norwich bulks his CV in terms of Premier League promotion, but the German has also failed to avoid relegation following both of his promotions – even if he was to guide Leeds back to the promised land, the board would be expected to have a succession plan in place.

Don Goodman recently commented that Farke inherited a mess and should therefore be given time next season even if Leeds remain in the Championship. Whilst that’s true, the club actually did recover on the pitch but ran out of steam after the last international break, costing them a place in the top two.

In addition, it’s difficult to see him being the primary candidate in the long term with his Premier League record – albeit with a Norwich side who have consistently struggled in the top flight under several managers.
