Daniel Farke pass up on ‘transfer business’ as Leeds United surprise revealed
Leeds United refusing to strengthen their squad during the recently concluded transfer window while they are on top is surprising, according to Sam Parkin.
Assessing every Championship club’s transfer business, Parkin suggested that Daniel Farke could have taken advantage of the Whites’ “lofty” position to add one or two players to their squad.
He is also of the view that Leeds’ 7-0 win against Cardiff City just two days before the transfer deadline may have convinced Farke about not signing any players.
“I think when there’s a transfer window in the middle of the season, despite Leeds’ lofty position, still a little bit surprised this morning they haven’t done one or two bits of business”, Parkin said on the Championship Check-In podcast (4 February).
“But yes, they’ve obviously got one of the strongest squads in the division.
“Daniel Farke will know better than me the nick of the squad and how the depth is looking, and obviously, in the aftermath of the win, maybe didn’t see the necessity.
“But, still a little bit surprised, that would be my overriding feeling.”
Daniel Farke to rue Leeds United transfer business?
Several fans and pundits stressed the need for Leeds United to sign a new attacking midfielder during the mid-season transfer window amid Brenden Aaronson’s inconsistent form, while some wanted them to bring in a consistent goalscorer.
However, Farke has decided to ignore all that noise and stick by the players he already has in his ranks.
As things stand, the West Yorkshire outfit are on course to earn promotion to the Premier League as they sit atop the Championship table with 63 points from 30 games.
They need to be wary of Burnley and Sheffield United, though, after the business they have done.
Burnley, who are two points behind Leeds United, having played a game more, made five new additions to their squad in the winter, including Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting CP.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, roped in seven new players, including Tom Cannon, Hamza Choudhury and Ben Brereton Diaz.
It now remains to be seen if Farke will be left to rue Leeds’ lack of transfer business in the winter.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are aware of the requirement to complete a transfer in the summer.
