Daniel Farke message to Crysencio Summerville emerges in Leeds United transfer update
Phil Hay has shared that Daniel Farke told Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville that he would play a big part and be influential in their push for promotion this season.
It was reported that Leeds were considering letting the winger leave at the start of the transfer window, and if he had shown a desire to depart they would have made it happen.
The conversation with Farke appears to have been the difference in seeing Summerville commit to the project at Elland Road rather than forcing a move elsewhere amid Premier League interest.
The Athletic journalist was speaking on the Square Ball Podcast [23 October] when he shared: “Summerville was another player, like many, that could have forced his way out in the summer. I think if he had generally shown a lack of commitment they would probably have said ‘Let’s just get this done’.
“Farke has been able to say to him ‘You’re going to play this season, and if we get promoted you’re going to have a big hand in it, you’ll have been influential.’
“I’ve seen a lot over the years with players and managers, the importance of players being invested in the ideas and the strategy of what a manager’s doing.
“You sometimes have circumstances where a manager has good ideas but the players don’t invest as much as they need to and therefore it doesn’t really work.
“I think with Farke at the moment, they do seem to be invested and you can see that with somebody like Summerville.”
The manager’s influence is clear
The influence of Farke has become clear in recent weeks, with the respect he commands amongst his squad a key part of his managerial plan, and having that respect and belief from the players will go a long way to what they can achieve this season.
Having the trust of the players means they will be more likely to put in a shift and make sure they don’t let their boss down, and believing in the system means they are more likely to buy into the style and way they should be playing.
This was typified in the victory against Norwich in which they were two goals down at half-time but believed in the way they were playing and the quality they have, and managed to mount a successful comeback.
Summerville typifies the trust in his boss, as he showed in that comeback victory, with his game improving week by week, and his decision to remain at Elland Road paying off so far.
In other Leeds United news, Farke may have given a double contract hint after the Norwich game.
