Farke urges James to become ‘greedy’ if he is to shine for Leeds United
Daniel Farke was impressed by Daniel James’ performance against West Brom but has urged the speedy winger to become more “greedy” if he is to thrive for Leeds United.
James assisted Luke Ayling’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Friday [18 August] and was lively throughout, but he also missed a big chance from close range.
Asked about the Wales international’s energetic display against West Brom, Farke told reporters, as per Leeds Live [19 August]: “He was excellent.

“He brought his pace into the game. He needs rhythm and confidence. He should have scored from two yards, but I like he was there rather than sitting back on the wing.
“We want him to be greedy. He can be outstanding at this level.”
Undoubted potential
James created five chances in total for Leeds in their frustrating draw with West Brom – the most he has managed in a game since March 2019 during his time at Swansea City [Opta’s Jonny Cooper].
While the 25-year-old can often be a frustrating presence, there is no doubt his pace in behind enhances Leeds’ attack fairly substantially.
The Welshman needs to work on his finishing – he has never scored more than four goals in a single campaign – but this could be the season he properly pushes on and shows his undoubted potential.
Farke clearly likes what he sees in James and will have plenty of time on the training ground to show the former Fulham loanee exactly what positions he wants him to take up.
For all the talk surrounding Wilfried Gnonto in recent weeks, it may well be that James holds the key to Leeds’ promotion aspirations.
In other Leeds United news, the chairman of an English club has called for former Whites sporting director Victor Orta to be banned from football.
