Daniel Farke makes stance clear to Leeds board amid sack news

Daniel Farke could be sacked by Leeds United even if he steers them to a 100-point Championship promotion season.

The ruthless nature of football as it is, Leeds are reportedly considering taking action by dismissing Farke despite him having fulfilled his objective of taking the Whites back to the Premier League.

The hierarchy at Elland Road are reportedly concerned about Farke’s poor top-flight record, in which he won just six games out of 49 across two stints in the Premier League with Norwich City.

Farke squad plans at Leeds United laid out

Leeds United are in party mode having secured their return to the Premier League, and are looking to round things off by finishing the season as champions – and possibly centurions.

However, the board could look for an upgrade on Farke, as they do not appear to be completely convinced he can keep the Whites in the Premier League for the long haul.

Farke is not understood to be concerned about his job security, however, and is said to be looking at revamping his Leeds squad ready to compete at the top level (Irish Independent, 23 April).

Entire squad reassemblies can tend to go one of two ways though can reap success if persisted with – as exhibited by Nottingham Forest this season in their push for the Champions League.

However, clubs such as Ipswich Town – who have still spent a considerable amount to stay afloat – are heading straight back down due to the gulf which exists between the two leagues.

This will be the second-straight season in which the three promoted sides have faced the drop, with Leeds prioritising avoiding that statistic themselves.

49ers Enterprises will be ruthless if required

Having completed a takeover worth £170million in 2023, 49ers Enterprises will not be afraid to make the valuable decisions which could dictate Leeds United’s long-term future.

If that means sacking Farke, 48, because there are options on the table with more proven Premier League records, they will believe ‘so be it’.

Fans and pundits are however divided: some claiming Farke deserves the opportunity to build on what he has now achieved and that to dispense with him would be harsh; others commending the potential ruthlessness in order for success.

In the meantime, Farke and Leeds have two matches remaining – the final Elland Road contest of the season with Bristol City (28 April), before troubled Plymouth Argyle play host on the final day (3 May).
