Daniel Farke identifies big issue that cost Leeds against Tottenham

Leeds’ unbeaten home run came to an end against Tottenham on Saturday.

Leeds were defeated 2-1 by Tottenham at Elland Road, suffering their first loss in three games.

Leeds will have felt unlucky not to have gotten something out of the game, but could not take advantage of the chances presented to them.

After the game, Daniel Farke was speaking about where Leeds need to improve when they return after the international break.

Daniel Farke urges Leeds to take chances

Leeds created plenty of chances against Tottenham, but could not equalise a second time after going behind.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued to struggle as he squandered a handful of chances, particularly in the first half.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Farke bemoaned his side’s lack of an end product against Tottenham.

He said: “[We needed] to score more goals from our big chances. We had two big mistakes. Sometimes you need just a scruffy goal, a bit like they scored today.”

The German manager also identified the importance of taking your chances when coming up against like Tottenham.

He added: “Today, against such a good opponent – Tottenham are in the Champions League, they are towards the top of the table – we missed too many chances to get something.”

Leeds know they have the quality to open up teams and create chances, and will need to be better going forward to stay in the Premier League.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to step up

Calvert-Lewin arrived on a free transfer from Everton in the summer to provide some firepower to the Leeds forward line.

Doubts over Calvert-Lewin have emerged after just one goal in the opening seven games, with the Englishman having missed a lot of chances in that period as well.

Farke may give the former Everton man the benefit of the doubt by starting him next time out against Burnley.

Another blank from Calvert-Lewin, however, will have plenty of Leeds fans questioning his inclusion in the lineup.
