Daniel Farke fumes after Leeds United draw v Sheffield Wednesday

Daniel Farke believes Leeds United have an issue with hitting the back of the net after they were held to a draw by Sheffield Wednesday.

The Whites were unable to find the net as they drew 0-0 against Xisco Munoz’s side at Elland Road in the search for their second win of the Championship season, despite having 16 attempts on goal, with only four being on target.

Leeds have scored seven goals so far in their five league matches this season, but four of those came in the 4-3 win over Ipswich Town, with United seeming to lack the clinical edge to find the net during tight matches.

Speaking in his press conference, as shared by Phil Hay (2 September) Farke said: “In the home games, it’s the same story. We won all the statistics, enough to win the game, but in the end, it’s just a draw. We needed to find the first goal because this opens up everything.

“I get my feeling that my players created more than enough to win. Normally it’s more than enough to win this game or win two or three if I’m honest. We find it difficult to hit the back of the net. The exception was Ipswich.”

Need goals

Leeds will need to win matches against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, especially at home should they have genuine hopes of returning to the Premier League this season and to do that they’re going to need to start scoring more goals.

Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter lead the line against Wednesday, with the former Swansea striker deployed just behind Rutter, but Piroe was unable to have the impact that many would have hoped as he made his Elland Road debut.

Leeds United

The win over Ipswich suggests that there are plenty of goals within Farke’s side, with the attacking talent at the disposal of the Leeds manager it would be even more worrying if they had failed to score goals consistently through the opening stage of the campaign.

With the international break now on the horizon, Leeds have a chance to knuckle down on the training ground and find a way of fixing their issues in front of goal. With the huge turnover of players this summer and quite a few late arrivals, it was always going to take time for this side to gel.
