Daniel Farke first-choice target emerges as Leeds United chase Glen Kamara from Rangers and Jonjo Shelvey at Nottingham Forest
Glen Kamara is the “first-choice target” for Leeds United in midfield with Daniel Farke “making it clear his wish” to sign the Fin, according to TEAMtalk.
The outlet reported on their website Monday (21 August) that the Whites boss wants the 27-year-old above all as he looks to repopulate a thin set of midfield options that are “one injury away from disaster”, and while Jonjo Shelvey from Nottingham Forest is also under consideration Kamara comes first.
TEAMtalk had reported earlier the same day that Leeds could now move for the former Newcastle and Liverpool man, who looks set to leave the City Ground after a “bust up” with Steve Cooper last season.

With Tyler Adams’ sale to Bournemouth on top of the exits this summer of Weston McKennie (loan end), Adam Forshaw (contract expiry) and Marc Roca (loan to Real Betis), Farke currently has just three central midfield options in Ethan Ampadu, 22, Archie Gray, 17, and Darko Gyabi, 19.
Both?
If Leeds United can afford it there would be every reason to try to bring both in considering how sparse the midfield is currently.
Gray has taken to the first team strongly despite his age but it would be a risk to rely on him to maintain that level for an entire Championship season, and Gyabi doesn’t appear to have gained the manager’s trust.
The Whites have been linked to Kamara for most of the summer and his exit from Ibrox is virtually assured as he is no longer in Michael Beale’s plans and hasn’t featured at all this season.

So now that some money has been brought in at long last with Adams’ unwelcome exit it may be that the club can finally afford to get a deal done.
But with striker, left-back, and depending on what happens with Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra’s futures potentially also winger, all needed the money is going to have to go a long way.
Neither Kamara or Shelvey should break the bank in themselves but landing both in addition to multiple other targets might be tricky, so it appears that given the choice Farke wants the Rangers man in the first instance.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has named another transfer target to watch in the final days of the window who the Whites are chasing.
