Daniel Farke fired Leeds United playoff warning ahead of showdown v QPR
Aidan White has warned Leeds United and Daniel Farke that promotion via the playoffs would be an underachievement this season.
The Whites currently sit third in the Championship, four points adrift of table toppers Sunderland ahead of their showdown with Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road on Saturday (9 November).
Although most pundits and fans alike expect Farke’s side to return to the Premier League automatically this term, former Leeds defender and Square Ball pundit White believes anything less than that will be a failure on the Whites’ behalf.
Speaking on The Square Ball podcast (8 November, 42:22) he said: “I think automatic is the goal, isn’t it?
“Unfortunately, even if we get promoted via the playoffs if worst came to worse then I still think we’ve probably underachieved.
“Automatic promotion is the one this year.”
What has happened to Leeds United manager Daniel Farke at Elland Road?
There is still a lot of football to be played this season and there is every chance Leeds United will earn automatic promotion this term, but the Whites haven’t quite hit their stride yet this term.
When the Whites have been at their best, they have been unstoppable with plenty of attacking talent and a solid backline. However, they have at times looked a bit one dimensional going forward and too easy to stop.
If they add some consistency to their game, they will comfortably finish in the automatic promotion places. As White says, anything less would be an underachievement given the quality in this squad, even after a summer that included some high profile exits.
Hopefully, Leeds will head into the international break with a win over QPR on Saturday and then pick up where they left off after the November break.
The run up to Christmas can be decisive in the race for automatic promotion and the Whites cnanot afford to let any opportunity pass them by or they could live to regret it as they did last season.
