Daniel Farke dubs Patrick Bamford ‘world-class’ after what Leeds United star did v Sheffield Wednesday

Daniel Farke believes the goal Patrick Bamford scored for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday was “world-class”.

Speaking after the Whites secured a 2-0 victory over the Owls on Friday (8 March, via LeedsLive), the German boss said it was the sign of a “top-class striker” as the 30-year-old moved away from his marker and pounced on Junior Firpo’s ball into the back post.

He added that you have to be in those positions and be “clinical” when it counts as he revealed how pleased everyone is to have the Englishman in his “best shape” at Elland Road.

“Everyone speaks about the goal Bamford scored at Peterborough in the FA Cup – a worldie – but this goal tonight is for me also like a world-class striker goal,” said Farke.

“To have this instinct. Will Junior be there with the cross? To have the movement away from the opponent at the far post and then you still have to have the concentration to get the ball down.

“It wasn’t that easy to score and this is a sign of a top-class striker. When it counts you have to be there and you have to be clinical, so we are all happy that we have Patrick and also have him in his best shape.”

Patrick Bamford on fire for Leeds United

It’s been a superb start to this calendar year for Bamford as he’s currently in a rich vein of form following his struggles in the first few months of the campaign.

It’s clear that the forward took some time getting back up to speed after he missed the opening few matches through injury.

But as he’s proven before at this level, he can be an incredible asset in the Championship and what Leeds have achieved since the turn of the year wouldn’t have been possible without him.

Farke is right to point out the excellent movement and composure the Englishman showed in opening the scoring against Sheffield Wednesday as it’s not as easy as it looks.

The Whites boss is clearly delighted with the form he’s been showing recently, having scored eight goals so far in 2024 to put his side in a great position to achieve promotion this season.

In other Leeds United news, a £20million permanent transfer has been mooted for one Whites loanee.
