Daniel Farke decision questioned after Leeds United loss v Millwall
Jon Newsome has been disappointed with Manor Solomon and questioned Daniel Farke’s decision to bring him on for Joe Rothwell as Leeds United lost to Millwall on Wednesday.
The Whites succumbed to their second Championship defeat of the season at The Den on 6 November, losing to a sole Japhet Tanganga goal.
In a game in which many things went wrong for Farke, his decision to replace Rothwell with Solomon in the 72nd minute particularly annoyed Newsome.
“It was a bit of a head-scratcher. I don’t feel Manor Soloman has offered a lot so far”, Newsome said on BBC Radio Leeds’ Football Forum (6 November).
“I think in his debut that he made, he looked a real handful and we all went, ‘Wow, I think we’ve got a player’, but I think he has been disappointing since.
“To then take Rothwell out of the fray and stick [Brenden] Aaronson into the middle of the park, I didn’t get, I really didn’t get, I didn’t understand it, didn’t understand why he’d do that.
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Daniel Farke.”
Daniel Farke questioned after Leeds United defeat
Newsome is right in saying that Solomon has been disappointing for Leeds United since arriving on loan from Tottenham in the summer.
The attacker began his time at Elland Road on a high note, providing an assist in the 2-0 victory over Hull City, but has not contributed to a goal since.
Solomon, 25, has rightfully been relegated to a place on the bench, with his last meaningful minutes coming in the 2-1 win against Watford on 22 October.
He was also ineffective during his 18-minute cameo against Millwall, registering just 17 touches (none in the opposition box) and completing only six of his 10 passes (FotMob).

Nevertheless, Farke cannot dwell on the defeat at The Den and quickly has to turn his attention towards QPR’s visit to Elland Road on Saturday (9 November).
With the visitor sitting twenty-third in the table and winless since August, one would expect Leeds to return to winning ways without much trouble.
