Daniel Farke could face sack in ‘savage’ Leeds United admission

Leeds United are heading back to the Premier League.

It may have looked nervy at times, but Leeds secured automatic promotion to the top flight in style with a 6-0 win over Stoke City on Easter Monday.

Once the celebrations are over at Elland Road, there is plenty for Daniel Farke and the hierarchy to turn their attention to ahead of the summer transfer window.

Staying in the league above is no easy task, but if the 49ers want to see sustainable progress in West Yorkshire, becoming an established Premier League side is a must.

Farke’s future at Leeds mooted already

Leeds have only just had their promotion to the Premier League confirmed, but if they are prepared to succeed, there will need to be plenty of preparation in West Yorkshire.

Although Farke has put together a terrific squad this season, there will have to be additions made in order to adapt to the top flight.

With the 49ers now having full control at Elland Road, there is expected to be higher levels of investment but the money has to be spent the right way to have a chance at success.

Had Farke failed to take the Whites up this term, he would likely have lost his job in West Yorkshire, but even so, his future is still up for debate.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (22 April, 6:10 am), Gabby Agbonlahor said: “Daniel Farke’s done a great job getting Leeds United up. But we’re in a ruthless, ruthless industry. Do Leeds change their manager for the Premier League?

“Listen, I know it’s ruthless, but Daniel Farke’s record in the Premier League, 52 games, nine wins, 30 defeats. Conceded 101 goals, scored 31. I’m just saying, do Leeds want to stay up? Do Leeds want to stay up this time?

“Daniel Farke hasn’t done it in the Premier League, he’s struggled as a manager. I’m just saying, you know how ruthless football can be. Look at the players. We all go through players and say to our guests, how many of these are going to be getting the news within the next week that they’re not leading next year? So they’ll do it to players that have got them there and say, listen, thanks for getting us to the Premier League, but we’re okay now, thanks.

“It’s a savage industry. Do they say there’s a top manager available who could take Leeds into the Premier League now and keep them in there?”

Leeds to stick by Farke

Farke has no doubt felt the pressure upon him at times this season, but having completed the job he was brought to Leeds United to do, surely he must be breathing a sigh of relief about his future.

You can understand what Agbonlahor is getting at, though. The German’s Premier League record does not make for good reading, and the last thing Leeds need is to put themselves at the back of the pack from the outset.

It would be incredibly ruthless to part ways with the boss at this stage, though, and he has a relationship with these players that he can build upon to push the side forward.

Nevertheless, should the West Yorkshire outfit struggle in the Premier League, it would not be a surprise to see that loyalty to the manager quickly fade away.

Farke deserves and will get a shot next season, and let’s hope it works out.
