Daniel Farke believes ‘quality’ Glen Kamara still has ‘more to come’ at Leeds United

Daniel Farke has said that there is still “more to come” from Glen Kamara after impressing in the early stages of his Leeds United career.

The Finnish international joined the ranks at Elland Road this summer from Rangers for a fee of around £5million [Leeds Live, 31 August] but took a bit of time to find his feet having not had a proper pre-season at Ibrox before the switch.

However, Kamara has begun to hit his stride in the last few weeks, including an excellent performance against Huddersfield Town and Farke has been eager to heap praise on the midfielder for his impact on the side both off and on the field.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (1 November) he said: “It’s important also to have some experienced players and again, we don’t have to speak about his CV, he has played for a big club with Rangers with always lots of pressure to win more or less each and every game in the league.

“He’s a proven Finland international with more than 50 caps already. Each and every week, each training session on the pitch with us is helpful and he’s on a good path. So I think there’s still more to come and he needs a bit of time to be there with 100 per cent.

“He’s definitely a player who gives us lots of quality on the ball in his decision-making which pass to make, can dictate also the rhythm of the game.

“I think he still needs to sharpen a bit up in the physical way because due to his lack of game-time in the last months but the more he plays and more he’s involved I think the better his physical endurance and stability will be.”

Winning mentality

While Kamara’s attributes on the ball are well known to fans both at Leeds United and elsewhere around the world, it could well be that his abilities off the pitch and his mentality are the most important characteristics of his game.

It takes a certain type of character to be a success at Rangers, a club which expects its side to win every game that it plays and while that can’t be expected in the Championship, that sort of attitude will be integral to the Whites’ promotion push under Farke this season.

Given the early lead that Ipswich Town and Leicester City have created at the top of the table, Leeds are going to have to win nearly every game they play and hope that the leading sides slip up to allow them to snatch a promotion place.

That is not too dissimilar to how Rangers treat their title race with Celtic and that may make Kamara the perfect addition to Farke’s dressing room. Hopefully, he can slowly build up his fitness and begin to show just how talented he is in a white shirt while helping guide younger players around him through a difficult campaign.
