Dan James was told he was surplus to requirements before move to Leeds United

Manchester United informed Dan James that he was surplus to requirements before he completed his move to Leeds United, according to The Athletic.

They claim that because of the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Red Devils informed the winger that he would be a long way down the pecking order, and James decided to move on.

The Whites acted swiftly and eventually sealed the signing of a player who they missed out on in January 2019.

Leeds finally get their man.

If you include James’ transfer to Manchester United, this move has been two and a half years in waiting.

Remember, the Welsh international posed for photos and even signed his contract in 2019, but Swansea City then changed their mind and refused to sanction the transfer, and the deal collapsed [WalesOnline].

He then moved to Old Trafford and has been consistently linked with a move to Elland Road since; it almost doesn’t feel real now that he is a Leeds player.

The Whites had a relatively quiet transfer window, but ending it with the signing of James is huge, and we can’t wait to see the winger playing for Marcelo Bielsa.

Jack Harrison and Raphinha have some genuine competition now, and it is going to be intriguing to see how they cope with James’ presence.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites nearly failed to get rid of one player on deadline day.
