Dan James too good for Championship after what he did for Leeds United

Dan James is too good for the Championship after helping Leeds United beat Swansea 4-3 on Sunday, Jon Newsome has said.

The 27-year-old provided the assist for Manor Solomon’s first and Willy Gnonto’s winner, while Ben Cabango’s own goal came off his pass as the Whites claimed all three points in Wales on 24 November.

Newsome believes Daniel Farke has found a replacement for Crysencio Summerville in the Wales international, who he feels was “unplayable” against his former employers.

“I think he’s the one that will fill the boots of Summerville, I think he’s the one if he gets the run of the games and he keeps fit”, Newsome said on BBC Leeds’ Football Forum [25 November].

“He’s too good for the Championship in my opinion and I think he was unselfish today, there were two or three occasions where you thought, in the past, he’d probably have a touch and have a dig himself, and instead, he’s stuck it across the second six-yard box or into the six-yard box.

“We scored the own goal from him, we scored the first goal from him, Solomon.

“So, I thought he was unplayable at times today, and his work rate and his pace, I mean, catch people unaware all the time.

“Defenders think they’ve got time and all of a sudden he puts the burners on, and goes on and nicks the ball off them, so I thought he was magnificent today.”

Output has always been a problem for the pacy winger as he had only two goals to show for his nine appearances before Sunday.

Therefore, the hat-trick of assists, including the Cabango own goal, against Swansea would be a huge boost of confidence for James ahead of the busy schedule in the festive season.

After missing six league games through injury earlier this season, the former Manchester United man will now be hopeful that performance will allow him to nail down a place in Farke’s starting XI.

Having racked up 74 appearances for Manchester United during his time at Old Trafford, there is no doubt that he is good enough to play in the Premier League.

Crysencio Summerville is now wanted by Fulham and West Ham

However, he needs to be a lot more consistent and also display better decision-making in certain in-game situations.

Lee Hendrie was particularly unimpressed with James after a poor cross in the first half of Leeds’ victory over Swansea.

If he can produce consistently good performances with significant output, he can easily step into Summerville’s boots at Elland Road.
