Dan James sustained muscular injury during Leeds United defeat to Manchester City

Leeds United forward Dan James sustained a muscular injury during their 7-0 defeat at Manchester City, according to The Telegraph.

The Wales international, 24, was withdrawn at half-time on Tuesday (14 December), and will continue to be assessed as he faces a spell out of action.

James is joining Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper on the treatment table in what is another huge injury blow for the Elland Road outfit, and Marcelo Bielsa will be rueing his luck.

Can’t catch a break

Leeds are already without Patrick Bamford in attack, and being without the summer signing is another massive blow.

James led the line in the absence of the one-cap England international, and with him expected to miss the Arsenal clash at Elland Road on Saturday (18 December), Bielsa could be forced to hand Joe Gelhardt a start.

Rodrigo has also been unavailable, and that would mean the Whites have very few attacking options right now.

Raphinha will miss the next game if he picks up a yellow card against Arsenal or Liverpool, and that is the last thing Leeds want right now.

They are in the middle of a tough run of fixtures, and being without their key attackers will only worsen things.

The 7-0 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium would not have done the morale of the dressing room any good, and another injury blow further complicates things.

The Yorkshire outfit will have to bring in some players in January if they want to improve their fortunes during the second half of 2021-22, and landing another forward would do them a lot of good.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have mapped out plans to avoid relegation scrap as January transfer budget claim emerges.
