Dan James prepared to undergo medical elsewhere as Leeds United exit could happen
Dan James has told Leeds United that he wanted to stay at Elland Road when the report of interest from Tottenham first appeared, as per The Athletic.
Phil Hay wrote for the website on 1 September that James was prepared to undergo a medical elsewhere as he was not sure what would happen on the deadline day.
Spurs and Everton are interested in him, and if they come up with an offer on the deadline day, there is a possibility that he could be sold.
This is a curious situation, and the possibility of him moving away from Elland Road cannot be ruled out.
While Leeds were adamant from the beginning that they won’t sell Jack Harrison, the same can’t be said about James.
He is still an important player for the Whites, but Jesse Marsch has other options now.
Having said that, it all depends on what Tottenham do at the moment.
If Spurs come up with an offer, and a good one, Leeds could let him go, provided they wrap up a deal for Cody Gakpo as well.
If Gakpo joins Southampton, it makes no sense for the Whites to sell James to Spurs on the deadline day without bringing any replacement.
James has found it difficult to make an impact in Marsch’s system. However, he has got loads of talent and has age on his side to turn things around.
It will be a tense next 15-16 hours for him, and anything can happen on the final day.
