Crysencio Summerville transfer ‘alert’ verdict issued as Player of the Season candidate sparks for Leeds United
Crysencio Summerville’s excellent Leeds United form has made him a “contender” to be the Championship’s player of the season, but is also likely to have alerted clubs from higher divisions to him, says Dean Jones.
The TEAMtalk journalist told GiveMeSport (19 December) that there was “no way” the Whites would want to lose the Dutchman in the January transfer window, but “unfortunately” he is increasing that prospect with his displays on the pitch.
Summerville, 22, has scored 10 times and assisted another six in 19 Championship appearances this term as arguably the star man for Daniel Farke.

Jones said: “He’s having a great season and at this rate, I think he’d be a contender for player of the season, not just at Leeds, but across the Championship.
“So there’s no way that Leeds want to lose him, especially in this sort of form, but unfortunately, this is also the sort of form that alerts clubs in other leagues, higher leagues, who wonder whether he could actually spark the difference for them too.”

It goes without saying that the Whites won’t want to lose him but for a Championship side there comes a point where an offer can’t be refused.
Leeds United proved with Willy Gnonto in the summer that they are willing to refuse to get pushed around by former Premier League contemporaries, at least where they had the power to do so, and whether a suitor is willing to pay big enough remains to be seen.
If Summerville personally repeats his stance from the summer and doesn’t entertain offers to jump ship then it surely secures the club and the manager against losing a vital weapon in the quest for promotion even if there is interest in him.

But with form having dipped in the past couple of fixtures and the top two in the league largely maintaining their pace at the top of the table it is starting to look more like a play-off spot might await Farke, and the lottery that entails.
Should the Whites fail to bounce back to the top flight this year Summerville has surely done enough already to earn a move out of the second tier at the end of the campaign.
He has stuck around at Elland Road once, and it seems likely that he will do so again next month, while contributing to the promotion cause as much as anyone, but if the job doesn’t get finished it’s going to be a struggle to convince him to stay for an encore.
In other Leeds United news, Adam Pope pointed the blame at Victor Orta for another “annoying” situation the Whites are now going through.
