Crysencio Summerville playing through pain barrier for Leeds United as injury update shared ahead of Huddersfield Town clash

Daniel Farke has confirmed Crysencio Summerville has been playing through the pain barrier for Leeds recently, hence being rested against Stoke.

The in-form winger was dropped to the bench just days after scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Norwich as the Whites fell to defeat on the road against Stoke City in midweek.

And when questioned after the game Farke revealed that Summerville has been “playing with painkillers” and “with a strapped shoulder”, but journalist Joe Donnohue revealed he is still expected to be available for the weekend clash with Huddersfield at Elland Road.

“The same with Summerville, for him at the moment it’s not possible to play three games over 90 minutes in seven days,” Farke explained.

“He was injured during pre-season and already two little injuries during the season. He plays at the moment always with painkillers and with strapped shoulder, so the plan was today after this magnificent last game that he came in an order to inspire our game in the second half.”

Makes sense

The Leeds injury situation has not been as bad as it has been in recent years, but Farke has openly admitted that he isn’t a huge fan of rotating his team too much and it’s coming back to bite him now.

Wilfried Gnonto has just returned from several weeks out, but lots of players seem to be carrying knocks and issues as well as a heavy work load.

Ethan Ampadu has played every minute of every game for the club this season while Archie Gray just completed a seventh 90 minute outing in just 21 days, despite Farke admitting to being worried about burnout for the 17-year-old.

We have got one of the best squads in the division and our options are deep. There’s no need for Summerville or anyone else to really be playing through pain barriers like that when we have so many options that can do the job.

It’s good to see he was rested and unfortunately it came at a time where we lost the game, but in the long-run it will be good for him to be rested and ready and hopefully he’ll be at his best the next time we’re in need of some of his quality.
