Crysencio Summerville not expected to travel with Leeds United squad for Aston Villa clash – Phil Hay

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville is not expected to feature in the senior squad for the Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

That’s according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, with the Whites to finally return to action after two weeks off tomorrow evening (09 February).

Summerville asked to leave in January, but that exit was blocked and the 20-year-old shined in a 3-0 win for the under-23s against Liverpool last night (07 February).

Writing for The Athletic on Tuesday morning (08 February), Hay shared the news that isn’t likely set to impress Summerville.

“The 20-year-old has continued to train at Thorp Arch since the deadline passed eight days ago and he played and scored for the development side against Liverpool yesterday evening,” he wrote.

“He is not expected to feature in the senior squad at Aston Villa tomorrow night, however, and it is not clear how much involvement he will have in the rest of Leeds’ top-flight campaign.”

Strange.

Summerville appears to have shot himself in the foot by pushing for an exit from Elland Road in the past month.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed publically that he asked to leave, and that has put the spotlight on him, although he did perform admirably for the under-23s at Elland Road last night.

Even with injuries clearing up, though, there are few options behind Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Dan James, who could all start.

That means one injury or problem with one of those three, and there is no direct replacement to come on out wide if needed.

It takes time to break through at senior level under Bielsa, but once you do, you know you have earned it, and it looks as though Summerville doesn’t have the immediate patience or determination for that.

We hope that comes, though, with the 20-year-old packed with talent and the ability to become something very special at Elland Road – patience.
