Summerville sends message as ex-Leeds ace forced into early retirement

Crysencio Summerville made his Leeds United debut in 2021 and became a key player for the Whites before joining West Ham last summer.

The Dutchman established himself as one of the best players in the Championship last term when he notched 20 goals and nine assists in the second tier.

But despite Summerville’s efforts, Leeds did not win promotion to the Premier League and were instead beaten by Southampton in the play-off final.

However, even without Summerville’s services, the Whites now seem on course for automatic promotion as they sit top of the Championship with just eight games left to play.

Summerville responds as Morten Lunde Spencer shares gutting retirement news

Former Leeds academy player Morten Spencer revealed via Instagram on Thursday (27 March) that he is retiring from professional football due to a cardiac problem.

The 21-year-old spent five years in the Whites academy before moving to Derby County last summer, but did not make a senior appearance for either club.

“Heartbroken to be saying this. I will be retiring from professional football due to a cardiac problem I can’t carry on with,” said Spencer.

“All I’ve ever known is to kick a ball and I have learnt everything from the game. I’m thankful and proud of what I have achieved.”

Leeds should get back to winning ways on Saturday

The Whites’ only win in their last four games came when they defeated Millwall 2-0 on 12 March, after they signed off ahead of the international break with a 2-2 draw at QPR.

Daniel Farke’s men are in a favourable position at the top of the Championship, but they are level on points with second-place Sheffield United and only two points clear of third-place Burnley.

Amid strong pressure from both the Blades and Burnley, Leeds must return to winning ways to avoid slipping out of the automatic promotion spots.

But this Saturday presents a major opportunity for the Whites to pick up all three points as they take on a Swansea side who sit just six points above the relegation zone.

The Swans have not come away from Elland Road with a victory since their 1-0 win in August 2019, which arrived courtesy of Wayne Routledge’s late strike, and a repeat seems unlikely this time around.
