Crysencio Summerville issue emerges, four doubts – Early Leeds United team news v Chelsea

Daniel Farke has shared his early team news ahead of the Leeds United game against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Wednesday (28 February).

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday (26 February), the Whites boss confirmed there are doubts over the fitness of attackers Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, Daniel James and Georginio Rutter heading into the fifth-round tie.

But the German revealed that fullback Sam Byram is back training with the rest of the squad and is available to make the trip to Stamford Bridge.

“We have after the last game that cost a lot of energy a few doubts,” said Farke. “Patrick Bamford showed a little reaction with his calf and got a hit against his ankle, there is a question mark if he’s available.

“The same with Crysencio Summerville, he rolled his ankle and it’s pretty swollen, so big question mark behind his availability. Little bruise for Daniel James, I think he should be available, but we’ll see, at least a little question mark.

“There’s a major question mark behind Georginio Rutter because he’s got some problems with his hip flexer, won’t be able to train today, so we’ll make a late decision on him. We won’t do anything stupid, we won’t risk long-term injuries for this game. There are a few question marks and there will be some late decisions.

“On the other hand good news, Sam Byram is back in team training and it looks like he’s available. We have to wait a bit for how many minutes, but he’s back in team training and should be also at least an option for this game.”

Opportunity for Leeds United to test themselves against Chelsea

This is a great opportunity for the Leeds United players to test themselves against Chelsea when they make the trip to Stamford Bridge.

The Whites earned their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup following their convincing 4-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle in the fourth-round replay on 6 February.

They come into the game on the back of a superb 3-1 win over Championship table-toppers Leicester City on Friday (23 February) as they go in pursuit of promotion back to the Premier League this season.

The Blues will be looking to bounce back after they suffered a disheartening 1-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday (25 February).

The pressure is firmly on the top-flight side to make it through to the next round and Farke will be hoping his side can give them a good game under the lights in West London.
