Crysencio Summerville has outside chance to play for Leeds v Liverpool

Amid Wednesday’s development of banning Brazilians from playing this weekend, Leeds United could look to start Crysencio Summerville in place of Raphinha.

According to a report in LeedsLive, Summerville has drawn plenty of calls for a first-team bow after impressive performances for the Under-23s.

It’s understood that Marcelo Bielsa has his eyes on him as he eyes up alternatives for Raphinha and the fact that he does not throw new signings right into the mix means Dan James may not start the weekend fixture against Liverpool.

Time for Summerville?

Thorp Arch has produced many a first-team sensation for Leeds United and among the current crop of youngsters, Summerville is by far, the most exciting talent the Whites have on their hands.

He’s performing consistently week in and week out and putting 8/10s in most games – something Bielsa would clearly be impressed with.

Even Joe Donnohue, who covers Leeds Under-23s for LeedsLive, has been impressed by the 19-year-old’s performances.

After their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, he said of Summerville on Twitter, “The more I see of Cody Drameh and Crysencio Summerville, the more I’m exceedingly impressed by their dependability. Summerville clinical & ruthless tonight.”

Given Raphinha’s supposed absence and James’ lack of training at the club, there is a very good case to be made for Summerville to be thrown into the starting eleven, or at least making an appearance off the bench.

The Dutchman has done everything he can for the youth teams to prove his worth to the Argentine and now the ball is in Bielsa’s court.

If we were in charge of the side, we would throw Summerville in and hand him his first ever Premier League appearance.

All eyes will be on Bielsa’s team sheet for the Liverpool game, especially if Raphinha is ruled out of the game.
