Crysencio Summerville called out: Leeds sources take aim after transfer
Thorp Arch sources have said that selling Crysencio Summerville last summer could have been a “blessing in disguise” for Leeds United, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported on 5 January that while it’s accepted that Summerville was “too good” for the Championship, his commitment and professionalism were often questioned at Thorp Arch.
Summerville was United’s talisman last season with 20 goals and nine assists in the second tier, but after the Whites failed to achieve promotion, West Ham signed him in a deal north of £25million last summer.
However, his attitude being questioned by club sources, and his team-mates’ frequent over-reliance on him in matches, are seen as reasons that selling Summerville was a wise move.
Leeds United would love Crysencio Summerville back in the fold
No matter what is said about Summerville’s off-field commitment or attitude in training at Thorp Arch, his performances last season mean that he’ll always be a player United fans look back on fondly.
By far and away the best player in the Championship last term, Summerville made Daniel Farke’s side tick every week as his glut of goals and assists fired the Whites within a whisker of promotion.

In almost any other season, the 90 points they accumulated would have been enough to secure a place in the top two, yet their failure to do so, and subsequent failure in the play-offs, meant a difficult summer.
The sales of academy product Archie Gray and enigmatic playmaker Georginio Rutter may have stung to a greater extent than Summerville’s exit, but the Dutchman’s impact far outweighed that of the pair.
If the 23-year-old was offered a sensational return to Elland Road tomorrow, you’d struggle to find a United fan who would turn it down, even given the potential baggage which would come with him.
