Craig Bellamy makes new transfer admission on Leeds United star Joe Rodon
Craig Bellamy has revealed that Burnley wanted to sign Leeds United defender Joe Rodon during the Wales manager’s time at Turf Moor.
The centre-back has been with the Whites since initially joining them on loan in the summer of 2023 and has since become an essential figure in the team.
Bellamy spent time at Burnley under Vincent Kompany as the first team coach before becoming the Wales manager, and speaking to the media [Daily Record, 18 November], the 45-year-old admitted that the Clarets wanted to sign Rodon.
“I probably shouldn’t say this, but I remember that even when I was at Burnley, we wanted him. So he’s a player where a lot of clubs would love in terms of profile.”
Joe Rodon influential at Leeds United
The defender was an exciting prospect during his time at Swansea, which eventually got him a move to Tottenham.
Rodon struggled to make a mark at Spurs, though, and after being given few opportunities, he was sent out on loan to France before making his way to West Yorkshire.
At Leeds, the 27-year-old has established himself as a reliable centre-back, and the Welshman has repaid Daniel Farke’s faith.
Last season, Rodon was a key player for the Whites as they made it to the play-offs final, narrowly losing 1-0 to Southampton.
The Elland Road faithful expect their team to attain promotion in the current campaign, and the Peacocks are currently in with a chance to do so, sitting third in the Championship table.

The Wales defender has started in all 15 of Leeds’ league games this season, keeping nine clean sheets and conceding just nine goals, and has also churned out impressive displays for his country.
It’s safe to say that the 27-year-old has come into his own and is enjoying the best moments of his career with the Whites, but it remains to be seen whether a move to a Premier League club in the coming future will entice the centre-back.
