Coventry v Leeds United: Report shares what Frank Lampard did in unseen moment

Frank Lampard was caught doing a four-finger gesture to the Leeds United fans after the clash against Coventry City, according to LeedsLive.

Isaac Johnson reported for the news outlet in its unseen moments article on Thursday (6 February), spotted after the final whistle of the 2-0 win against the Sky Blues at the Coventry Building Society Arena (5 February).

Lampard, who was also seen “cupping his ears” to the away support, responded to chants from the Leeds faithful by gesturing to the 4-2 win he recorded when managing at Derby County in the 2019 Championship play-off semi-final at Elland Road.

Frank Lampard will suffer consequences for Leeds United response

According to ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett, the Coventry boss may receive a letter from the EFL for his animated response to the Leeds supporters.

The rendition of ‘Stop crying Frank Lampard’ clearly got under his skin in the home dugout, and to be frank, all is fair in love and war particularly when these two are involved.

Even five years after the infamous clash at Elland Road, no love has been lost between the Whites faithful and the Chelsea legend.

However, the feud runs deep. Lampard was Derby’s boss during the ‘Spygate’ incident, in which ex-Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa received a £200,000 fine having admitted sending staff members to watch Championship rivals train [BBC Sport].

Meanwhile, the contrasting fortunes between the Whites and Lampard could not be more apparent – the Englishman has suffered a tremendous fall from grace in his managerial career and was comfortably beaten in the West Midlands – Daniel Farke will begrudge his side for not putting Coventry to the sword.

Nevertheless, this is unlikely to be the last time Lampard and Leeds are mentioned in the same breath, but the Coventry boss can rest easy knowing their paths will not cross again next season or for the foreseeable future as things stand in the Championship.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have a “obvious” decision to make on Illan Meslier.
