‘Bielsa’s not sleeping tonight’, ‘Oh no’ – Many Leeds fans react to update from int’l duty

With internationals packed in like sardines during this international break, it was too much to expect that Leeds United would get through it unscathed.

And so it came to pass after it was confirmed that both Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper have picked up groin strains.

Losing one centre-back is unlucky but to lose two is enough to drive Leeds fans round the bend.

Llorente has come off worst and he’s out for three weeks before he’s even made his Leeds debut.

Cooper has already suffered an injury this season, missing the Liverpool game, but has played the full 90 minutes in the other three.

He helped keep the club’s first clean sheet against Sheffield United before helping secure a point in the thrilling 1-1 draw against Man City.

He’ll be a big miss and one fan said he thought it was time for Cooper to retire from internationals.

Another said that it would only take Robin Koch to get injured on Tuesday night to leave Leeds with a full house of injured at the back – luckily that didn’t come to pass and he remained on the bench for Germany’s 3-3 draw with Switzerland.

Rodrigo also got through his match against Ukraine unscathed after he was withdrawn for tactical reasons in the shock 1-0 defeat.

There are still a few nervy moments to come tonight with Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich both in action but hopefully these injuries will be the total extent for Leeds.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth said it “could have been worse” but these Leeds fans aren’t seeing any good in this news…
