‘Could only happen to us’ – Josh Warrington comments on enforced break: ‘Typical Leeds’
Josh Warrington has rued the luck of Leeds United as the Coronavirus pandemic has put a halt to their promotion push this season.
The IBF World Featherweight Champion claimed that Leeds are still in a good position and need to keep up their momentum from before the enforced break.
Leeds had won five games in-a-row all with clean-sheets before the break and currently sit seven points clear of third-placed Fulham.
Warrington admitted it was typical of Leeds’ luck that their promotion run had been halted, claiming that Marcelo Bielsa’s men can’t fall off their horse once they return to action.
“It’s typical Leeds United,” he told Leeds Live.
“It could only happen to us. But we’re in a very good position, we’ve just got to make sure that by the time that everyone gets back to playing again that we keep that momentum because we were flying.”
The EFL revealed that football will not return until the 30th of April, but that is not for definite and it could be even longer than that.
PFA deputy chief Bobby Barnes recently confirmed to David Ornstein that players are becoming realistic with the fact that they may need to complete the season behind-closed-doors – something which could start the football season sooner rather than later.
Warrington is right though, Leeds must keep up their momentum after the break – something Marcelo Bielsa has not had problems with before. Take our two season openers for example since he arrived, two dominant victories after pre-season breaks against Stoke and Bristol City.
