Commentator shares injury concerns over Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich in Poland win v Albania
Commentator Nigel Adderley expressed fears on Tuesday night that Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich had suffered an injury for Poland against Albania.
Klich, 31, was dropped from the Poland starting XI for their crucial World Cup qualifier in Tirana, but he was called upon from the bench at half-time as the away side went looking for a winner.
Indeed, Klich was the man to provide the moment of magic that opened up the Albania defence as his terrific cross evaded everyone but Karol Swiderski, who swept home at the far post to score the only goal in a 1-0 win.
However, after the game was suspended for crowd disturbances and subsequently resumed, Klich was temporary forced from the field in discomfort.
“It’s possible he may have just strained something,” Adderley said, commentating for the world feed as aired on Sky Sports.
“This will be a concern not only to Poland but to Leeds United as well because he remains a key part of their midfield.”
Marcelo Bielsa will have his fingers crossed that this does not transpire to be a big issue ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton.
Kalvin Phillips was withdrawn from the England squad last week with an injury and even though he in line to feature against the Saints, Bielsa will be desperate to avoid any other problems in midfield.
The positive aspect with Klich was that he was able to complete the match as Poland held on to collect all three points in their quest for World Cup qualification.
One would suggest it would have taken a lot to force him from the field permanently, given the importance of the clash, but Poland did have two more available substitutes, which they used after Klich’s apparent injury.
The camera panned in on the Leeds man as he took his boot off on the side of the field, suggesting whatever issue he had may have been in that region.
That’s another element that gives hope, that it didn’t appear to be something more serious like a hamstring complaint.
Hopefully, it was just an impact injury and he will be fully fit for Saturday as Leeds aim to record their second Premier League victory of the 2021/22 campaign.
In other Leeds United news, George Galloway has slammed this Whites player in a thinly-veiled Elland Road dig.
