Cody Gakpo stance emerges amid interest from Leeds United and Manchester United

Leeds United target Cody Gakpo is reportedly keeping interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal on the backburner as he is focusing on playing at PSV.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink, Nottingham Forest’s interest in the Dutchman is also concrete and they want to secure his services immediately.

However, the 23-year-old is yet to make a decision over his future and his side being in the Champions League has been pivotal in him not rushing to any conclusions.

Elfrink said via Twitter that top clubs may still table big-money bids to sign Gakpo this summer.

He wrote, “Gakpo is in the spotlight at several top clubs, such as Arsenal and Manchester United before. Lower echelon clubs would like to take him over. It cannot be ruled out that top clubs will still come to PSV with bids.”

Hard to get?

Given the calibre of clubs interested in him, there’s no chance that PSV are parting ways with him on the cheap this summer.

He’s also got Champions League football there and all the clubs being linked from the Premier League cannot offer him that.

If that is the be-all and end-all for Gakpo then it’s pointless wasting time over this pursuit and instead, they’ve got to look elsewhere.

The Dutch international is not even a number nine as he prefers playing out wide, but Leeds appear well stacked in those positions.

He can play as a lone striker but it’s not something that he’s comfortable doing and will take time to adapt to that new role and a new league as well.

The chances of the Whites getting this over the line ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are very slim.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
