Cody Gakpo messages Joel Piroe after Leeds United comeback win v Norwich City

Cody Gakpo has messaged Joel Piroe after Leeds United secured a comeback victory over Norwich City on Saturday (21 October).

After going two goals behind in the first half at Carrow Road, a Shane Duffy own goal was followed up by a Crysensio Summerville double to secure the Whites a 3-2 win.

Piroe posted an image on Instagram of himself celebrating with his fellow Dutchman Summerville, with Liverpool forward Gakpo, who rejected a move to Elland Road in 2022, responding to the post with a fire emoji.

It’s no surprise that Piroe and Gakpo are close because they both came through the ranks at PSV together and are the same age, so they have probably known each other well for a number of years.

The Liverpool forward regularly responds to his compatriot’s posts and he will no doubt be pleased to see him doing well at Leeds.

Although it wasn’t the best day at the office for Piroe, Summerville stepped up to complete the comeback for the Whites and the three points are all that matters.

It looked for a large portion of the afternoon like they weren’t going to get anything out of the game, but they showed great character to hang in there and turn things around.

The victory takes the West Yorkshire club up to third in the Championship table and they will be looking to pick up another important win when they head to Stoke City on Wednesday (25 October).
