Club congratulates young attacker on Leeds move before deleting tweet – deal could be imminent

It looks like Leeds United could be on the brink of announcing a new transfer.

Fans might be waiting for marquee signings such as a new striker or Ben White, but in the meantime, it does seem as if attacking midfielder Charlie Allen is about to be unveiled as a Leeds player.

Several eagle-eyed Leeds fans spotted a tweet from Linfield that read, “Best wishes from everyone at Linfield FC to Charlie Allen on his big move to @LUFC.” The tweet was subsequently deleted.

One Leeds fan said, “Seems this tweet was deleted behind the #LUFC wall of silence.”

An interview put up on the Linfield website was also taken down this morning. A Google archive shows Linfield manager David Healy sending out the same message.

It seems like Linfield have jumped the gun but if a deal is imminent then it makes sense that Leeds would want to announce the move themselves.

It’s been strongly rumoured for a long time now – Football Insider reported back at the end of May that Leeds would be signing him.

In an interview in the Belfast Telegraph today, Healy said, “This is a terrific opportunity for Charlie to progress and develop as a player at a club looking ahead to exciting and challenging times now they are back in the Premier League after a long absence.”

Allen is only 16 and won’t be looking to make an impact in the Leeds first-team immediately but he’s a talent who has already hit milestones way beyond his years already.

He made the 25-man squad for Linfield’s Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg and now has the chance to develop his talents at a big Premier League club.

Expect an announcement later on today, or in the next few days. Then we can get back to waiting for news on Ben White and a new striker.
