Clotet claims Leeds making ‘big difference’ is key behind success this season
A trip to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham wouldn’t be the game many Leeds United fans would choose to have next up.
The Whites travel to the Midlands without a win in three games, and Birmingham hasn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground in recent times.
Leeds have lost their last two visits to Birmingham 1-0, and both encounters were frustrating games where they could have played for hours but wouldn’t score.
Pep Clotet has claimed that Leeds have made recent changes that have seen them establish themselves as a top team in the Championship.
“I remember teams that changed their style in this league and turned themselves into strong, winning teams,” he said, via the Daily Star.
“It took Fulham two seasons to develop and become what they became. It took Leeds two seasons to become the team they are now.
“And this is the season Leeds are making a big difference to change the style and the ability to win consistently thanks to that change in style.”
It’s hard to pinpoint which specific change that Clotet is getting at here, with Marcelo Bielsa often stubborn to switch his system or the players that he uses in that formation.
Defensively Leeds have improved massively, and the Whites will need to be at the top of their game to blunt the physical presence of players such as Lukas Jutkiewicz in the Midlands on Sunday.
