Clinton Morrison makes big claim about new Leeds signing Jean-Kevin Augustin

Clinton Morrison has said that new Leeds United signing Jean-Kevin Augustin will play and claimed he is ‘Premier League-quality’.

Leeds signed Augustin on Monday after their search for a new striker went through Southampton’s Che Adams.

Augustin wasn’t in the squad for the game at Elland Road last night but he was at the ground to watch his new teammates.

And he was treated to a thrilling game as Leeds came back from two down to beat Millwall 3-2.

Talking about the game on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 12pm), the host said to Morrison, “That to me shows Leeds have got a lot of fighting spirit at this stage of the season.”

Morrison agreed and said, “Leeds have got a lot of really good payers. Credit to him, I’ve criticised him before, but credit to Patrick Bamford, he stepped up last night and got the goals.”

White replied, “They’ve got Jean-Kevin Augustin now.”

Morrison was unequivocal about whether the new man would play or sit on the bench behind Bamford.

“He will play, he is Premier League-quality,” Morrison said.

However, he also admitted that it would spur Bamford on.

“When you don’t have any other strikers you get comfortable,” Morrison said. “But with the quality of Augustin coming in that will push him. And Leeds were brilliant last night.”

Will he or won’t he play? That’s the big question around Augustin at the moment.

We don’t think he’ll start on Saturday in the game against Wigan but we can’t see him sitting on the bench like Eddie Nketiah.

Augustin is at a different level and has a lot of experience. If Bamford keeps scoring then it might push his start back but Augustin hasn’t signed to play second fiddle to anyone.

When he starts, if he takes his chances, he could quickly establish himself as the number one striker under Bielsa.
