Cian Coleman training with Leeds first-team in pre-season

Leeds United have returned to first-team training over the past week to complete some fitness tests.

Marcelo Bielsa is known for his gruelling methods in training, where his players will be pushed to the edge of their fitness.

It wasn’t only first-team players involved in training, with some younger academy options being given the chance to step.

LUFC Youth Academy, an account dedicated to the younger options at Thorp Arch and Elland Road, has shared an update.

Writing on their official Twitter account, Cian Coleman is one of those who has been given that chance to impress.

“Highly-rated 16-year-old midfielder Cian Coleman has spent time training with the first team since returning for pre-season,” he wrote.

“Coleman was handed his first Republic of Ireland call up in May when he was selected for an under-19s training camp.”

Exciting.

Coleman will be loving this opportunity to step up into the first team as those who were at the EUROs are on holiday.

The 16-year-old clearly rated massively at Elland Road and also at international level, playing well above his age group.

We have previously picked out the midfielder as one to watch after he starred for the under-18s against MK Dons last season.

The young Whites demolished their opponents in the FA Youth Cup 8-2, and it was Coleman who grabbed a goal and an assist on that evening.

It appears Bielsa has also been watching closely and will be wanting him to have a similar impact across pre-season ahead of a huge year.

This year could end in his first professional contract, so it is critical to make the right impression on El Loco, we have no doubts he will.
